Charleston SC Tree Care
Proper tree care is both an art and a science.  Therefore, we recommend having an expert come out and walk you through what things you should look for and how you should handle some common occurrences with trees and their overall health.  Our staff has years of training in every aspect of tree care from tree trimming to disease diagnosis and from tree planting to tree removal.  A general rule of thumb is that trees grow on their own perfectly fine.  Often times it is when humans intervene that problem arise.  If issues do present themselves, we are here to help care for your trees and get them back on track.
What can I do as a homeowner to properly care for my trees?
The answer to this question can get as complex as you would like, but here are a few tips to help any homeowner properly care for their trees.
  1. As stated above, trees generally do not have any issues growing on their own.  I mean they have been growing in forests for years.  What I mean by this is, sometimes it’s best to just let the tree do its thing and grow.  The occasional pruning is perfectly fine, but remember to not overdo it.  Over pruning trees in one growing season can “stress” the trees and obviously a tree under stress will not flourish to its full potential.
  2. Become familiar with common diseases for trees in your area.  Just like in humans, a quick diagnosis is critical to saving the tree.  Look for early warning signs that a tree may be unhealthy like are the leaves dying during the time of year they shouldn’t be?  Is the tree bearing less fruit, blossoms, or foliage than normal?  Do you see any fungus growing on the tree?  These can be dead (excuse the pun) giveaways when determining whether your tree is diseased or dying.  If you notice any of these signs, it is probably time to call a professional in to either help save the tree or go ahead and remove it before it becomes an issue.
  3. Adding mulch or pine straw around your trees not only make the trees more visually appealing, they can also help prevent over watering.
  4. When selecting new trees to plant on your property, do some research.  Find out what trees best suit your climate and soil type.  Choosing the right tree in the beginning can save you a lot of headache and time in the future.
  5. Inspect your trees and roots occasionally and make note of any damage you see to the trunk or root system.  If you notice any damage, monitor the tree closely as this could lead to the death of the tree.  If you are worried about your tree’s health, give us a call and we will send an expert out to help you decide what the best course of action is to save your tree.
